Protecting Your Property: The Importance of Water Damage Restoration for Flooring in Florida

3/29/2024 (Permalink)

Living in Florida offers many advantages, but it also comes with the risk of water damage, especially during hurricane season or due to plumbing issues. When water infiltrates your property, one of the most vulnerable elements is your flooring. Whether it's hardwood, carpet, tile, or laminate, water damage can wreak havoc on your floors if not addressed promptly and effectively. Here's why water damage restoration is crucial for preserving the integrity of your flooring in Florida:

Preventing Structural Damage: Water can seep into the subflooring and weaken the structural integrity of your floors. Over time, this moisture exposure can lead to warping, buckling, and even collapse. Prompt water damage restoration helps prevent further structural damage, preserving the stability of your property.

Minimizing Mold Growth: Moisture from water damage creates an ideal environment for mold and mildew to thrive, especially in the porous materials commonly found in flooring. Mold growth not only compromises indoor air quality but can also cause extensive damage to your flooring and pose health risks to occupants. Professional water damage restoration includes thorough drying and dehumidification to inhibit mold growth and prevent its spread.

Preserving Flooring Materials: Different types of flooring materials react differently to water damage. Hardwood floors may warp or cup, while carpeting can become saturated and harbor mold and bacteria. Proper water damage restoration techniques tailored to each flooring type help salvage and preserve these materials, minimizing the need for costly replacements.

Restoring Aesthetic Appeal: Water damage can leave unsightly stains, discoloration, and odors on your flooring, detracting from the overall aesthetic appeal of your property. Professional restoration services include thorough cleaning, sanitization, and deodorization to restore your flooring's appearance and freshness.

Protecting Property Value: Water damage can significantly diminish the value of your property if left untreated. Stained, warped, or mold-infested flooring can deter potential buyers and reduce resale value. Investing in water damage restoration demonstrates your commitment to maintaining your property and helps preserve its value over time.At SERVPRO, we understand the unique challenges posed by water damage to flooring in Florida. Remediating Water Damage in Daytona

2/21/2022 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Uses Many Technologies for Water and Moisture Removal

Daytona homes were spared the worst of the weather this year, but that does not eliminate flooding. Even in a year like 2017, most of the damage to Florida homes came from more everyday sources such as a leaking pipe or a failed dishwasher or other appliance.

As we all know by now, water damage in Daytona homes can be severe unless a homeowner moves quickly to have excess water removed and her property swiftly dried. SERVPRO offices know that regardless of the source of water, a home in distress is at risk for further damage and some actions have to be immediately taken after we arrive.

First, we secure your home. Every action here is to prevent further loss and includes much more than boarding up windows and doors. Our technicians determine the source of the leak and either block or turn off the water into the home. We also check for weakened or collapsing floors and any electrical hazards that might be present. Even in a large home, this usually takes only an afternoon.

Once we identify the problems, we remove any water in the home. For amounts over two inches in depth, we use commercial grade pumps. For smaller levels, we bring in extraction wands that function as an industrial grade water-vac. After we remove the visible water, one of our inspectors examines behind walls, under floors, and in carpets for any trapped moisture.

Our next step is to remove that moisture. Technicians use the same extraction wands to draw water from carpets and between floorboards after we adjust the devices to a lower setting to prevent any secondary damage. If there is a pad under the carpet, we remove and dispose of it.

Now that it is dry, we examine the carpet for damage. Our concerns are for damaged seams, delamination or separation of the back of the carpet, and mold. If we have removed the water quickly enough, the damage is usually very minor. In most cases, SERVPRO IICRC certified restoration specialists could repair the carpets, lay them on a new pad, and then stretch them back into place. If we find mold, our normal recommendation is to replace the carpet.

Our final action is to dry the rest of the home. By removing the water earlier, we prevented the immediate loss of building material, but it is still necessary to drywall panels and floor trim to stop both mold and wood rot. We use dehumidifiers to draw moisture from the air and air movers to direct warm, dry air across surfaces to force out moisture without causing any further damage.

Preserving the integrity of your home and property is more than a job for us here at SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange. We are locally owned and understand that each customer is also one of our neighbors. If you need our help, call us today at (386) 788-0358.

Local College Flood

Flooded Classroom at local school Classrooms were heavily affected but because of quick thinking by the school damage was minimized.

A few years back, it was a normal Friday at a local college, classes were almost finished for the day and faculty was getting ready to head home. One of the maintenance men noticed a pump from the water tank was showing low pressure and as a back up two more pumps came online to make up the difference. What was happening? A pipe burst inside of a maintenance room of the science building. Unfortunately the door was closed and the room began to fill with water until it reached approximately 6-7ft and a wall gave way releasing over 10,000 gallons of water onto the 1st floor of the building.

The fast acting faculty immediately got the pumps turned off and called SERVPRO of Daytona Beach/Port Orange. Within an hour our SERVPRO technicians were on site and extracting water and by Monday, just three days later, the school was able to hold some classes in the building and by Friday the entire floor was open again. Water Damage and Homeowners Insurance

4/26/2021 (Permalink)

Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Water Damage?

Homeowner's insurance is useful in times of an emergency. Insurance allows you to avoid having to pay out-of-pocket for expenses that are related to damage to your home. Submitting a claim after your home is damaged by water helps you recover money spent on repairs. However, it is important to know that there are positive and negative points to filing a water damage insurance claim has its good points and bad points.

Water Damage Coverage

Your insurance company covers certain types of water damage. In most instances, the insurance company will cover any damage that is the result of a sudden event. For example, if the broken dishwasher leaks water and causes any water damage, you are covered by your policy. But, any damage that results from a dishwasher that malfunctions because of inadequate maintenance or neglect will not get covered.

No Coverage

An issue that homeowners face that is not covered by a regular homeowner’s insurance policy is flood damage. If a local river overflows and floods your home, the flooding is not covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy. You will need to purchase a separate insurance policy to cover flooding. This type of insurance is advised for anyone living in an area prone to flooding.

Water damage is covered through homeowner’s insurance

Unfortunately, there are some limitations to this coverage. An accident that occurs suddenly will likely get covered. However, flood damage that arises from poor maintenance may not covered by your policy. It is important to know that you may find yourself disagreeing with your insurance company about the nature of your water damage. An incident that you believe is the result of a sudden accident may not get viewed as such by your insurer. Your insurance company may argue that the damage was caused by improper maintenance of your home.

Protecting Wood from Water Damage

3/21/2021 (Permalink)

Most houses have wood integrated into their structures in some way or another. Often these wooden parts of the house are used for decks, doors, or garage doors. The problem with wood that is open to the elements is that water damage is always a possibility. Similar to issues with the foundation, if gutters are absent from the building or are defective so that water flows straight down rather than being directed away from the building, the result could be rotting, mold growth, or other problems associated with wood being affected by water.

Keep Outside of the House Clean

When rainwater flows off the roof, it brings with it the mud, sand, and other debris that may have collected on the roof. What fell from the sky as clean water is now dirty water that can leave a trail on the house. The result of this could be the staining of doors, windows, and siding which could negatively affect the look of the house and force you to clean the house more frequently. The primary purpose of gutters is to direct water away from the house so that the water doesn’t flow straight down where it can cause trouble.

By doing this, the water that would have caused these unsightly features will now be directed well away from the house leaving the home with a cleaner outside look.

Does Water Cause Permanent Harm to Carpets in Your Port Orange Home?

10/18/2020 (Permalink)

If a water intrusion event threatens the textiles in your home, contact SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358.

Professional Services Can Help Protect Carpets after Water Exposure. SERVPRO is an Elite Restoration Company for Water Cleanup in Port Orange.

What is bonnet cleaning for carpets?
Water exposure can cause soiling or flatten the carpets in your Port Orange home. One method of restoring a carpet that is exposed to moisture is by bonnet cleaning. This method uses a rotary machine to buffer the top of the carpet rapidly. SERVPRO technicians may need to prepare the carpet before using this method by removing spots or stains and vacuuming first. The goal of using a rotary machine is to fluff the fibers of a rug, which can become compressed by water exposure and foot traffic. After applying a cleaning solution, our technicians can then use a rotary machine to perform the bonnet carpet cleaning.

What items are needed to perform bonnet cleaning?
    •    A mixed solution of bonnet brite cleaning agent and pump-up sprayer to disperse the solution
    •    A rotary machine fitted with a cotton or polypropylene pad.
    •    Vacuum cleaner to prepare the surface before and remove any loose fibers

Are thicker carpets harder to clean after water intrusion?
A thick carpet can limit water cleanup options in your Port Orange home. These may include shag or Berber carpeting. SERVPRO technicians may also need to inspect a rug for signs of delamination before applying a cleaning agent. The trick to avoiding secondary damages is by keeping the roto machine continually moving across the carpet so that the high speeds of rotation do not destroy carpet fibers. The follow up to cleaning carpets is usually to groom the carpet, allowing air circulation into the fibers and further fluffing the textile.

What are the precautions for using carpet cleaning agents in water-damaged homes?
    •    Avoid direct contact between solution and baseboard or paintwork
    •    Use chemical resistant gloves and splash goggles when mixing the cleaning solution.
    •    Keep agitative equipment in constant movement across the carpet.

If a water intrusion event threatens the textiles in your home, contact SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358.

How Does Water Get Removed from Different Materials in South Daytona?

9/7/2020 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

We always seek to restore your South Daytona home over the replacement of materials, so understanding how to dry exposed elements can make this process successful.

As overwhelming as a water disaster might seem in your South Daytona home or business, swift action from professional water restoration companies like our SERVPRO team can help. We approach every emergency with the urgency it is due, as standing water and exposure can irreparably harm structural elements and contents of the house. While some of the restorations for exposed materials can happen without much trouble, several construction choices have a rigid restoration timeline.

Homes are not constructed with a single type of material, meaning that the water damage restoration for South Daytona properties involves multiple approaches, equipment, and strategies. The way that wall systems get dried and restored varies from the damage that flooring materials might endure after prolonged exposure. Despite the changes in how we address and overcome drying obstacles in a property after a disaster, we must evaluate and assess impacted structural elements with the same categorizing factors. These include the porosity of the material, the steps for drying it, and at what point controlled demolition becomes inevitable.

How Does Drywall Become Damaged?
Because of its typical use in modern homes, drywall is often one of the universally exposed construction materials in both residences and businesses. While internal elements like the framing might change with commercial construction, drywall is the cheapest wall surface that can be painted or covered to the preferences of the owner. With how easily gypsum can fall victim to pooling water or heightened moisture contents, it is critical to understand the best approach to protect these materials when possible and the rest of the structure when it is not.

    •    Porosity/Permeance – In the realm of construction materials, drywall is among the most porous and able to pass water. This high porosity means that complete exposure and eventual oversaturation can happen on a short timetable.
    •    Drying – If it is deemed possible to dry out sheetrock after exposure, this often happens with centrifugal air movers positioned at the problem areas.
    •    Controlled Demolition – Drywall is often removed after exposure because this is a low-cost material. It usually costs more to attempt to restore it and clean it than it would to replace it with a new sheet.

Can Carpeted Floors Get Successfully Dried?
Carpets are also a staple of modern construction for their feel and look in the living space. Water damage occurring around these materials can show the high sensitivities of carpet materials to pooling water and moisture concerns. Evaluating the likelihood of removing this water damage before irreparable harm occurs saves time for restoration and recovery.

    •    Porosity/Permeance – Carpets are hygroscopic materials, meaning that they are immediately impacted by water exposure and can absorb water vapor in the air.
    •    Drying – When the drying process begins quickly, hygroscopic materials are among the first to recover when irreversible damages have not already taken place.
    •    Controlled Demolition – The need for controlled demolition might not always exist for the upper surface layer. The carpet itself is more resilient to damage and drying than the padding underneath.

Do Wooden Elements Like Flooring and Framing Fair Better?
Wood is not impermeable, so this material can also show signs of damage and harm after exposure to water damage effects. Because many water disasters begin in structural cavities, framing can often become exposed to water before flooring materials or drywall.

    •    Porosity/Permeance - Wood in either flooring or framework is considered semi-porous. While these surfaces do not absorb moisture as fast as carpets and sheetrock, they can experience the same absolute damages.
    •    Drying – For flooring that becomes damaged by exposure of standing water, we can remove surface threats with squeegee wands and extractors. Pulling moisture from the flooring or framing involves drying mats, air movers, and dehumidifiers.
    •    Controlled Demolition – If approached quickly enough by our qualified SERVPRO team, controlled demolition is not often necessary. Prolonged exposure can lead to warping and distortion of the wood, which requires removal and replacement.

Do Unfinished Materials Become Damaged Faster?
When damage to unfinished materials like the framing and plywood in an attic or supports in a basement becomes exposed to water and vapor, they can be more readily damaged. Without treatments or coverings for the materials, such as a finish on wood flooring, you have no vapor barriers to protect the material substrate, so absorption and subsequent damage occurs at a more accelerated rate.

Understanding how different materials get dried and protected after a disaster ensures that professionals like our SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange are doing the most to restore and repair the property. Give us a call anytime at (386) 788-0358.

Can Under an Inch of Water Cause Damage to My Daytona Beach Home?

7/12/2020 (Permalink)

The certified technicians arrive quickly and return your home to its preloss condition.

SERVPRO technicians know it is not only the amount of water in a Daytona Beach home but also the speed of the restoration services

Water can hit your Daytona Beach home in a lot of ways. Pipe bursts, appliance failures, toilet backups, and human error such as bathtub overflows. Water does not have to cover a room in your home to do a great deal of damage. If it seeps under the floors or wicks within the sheetrock on the walls, it increases the need for professional restoration for the best outcome.

What are Common Losses From Waiting for Water Cleanup?

When a water-based loss happens in your Daytona Beach home, water cleanup cannot wait. Putting down towels merely blots moisture from the surface, and when water runs down into the carpet pad or seeps under tile, it creates other issues that have the potential to be more damaging to your structure and contents. Waiting to begin the cleanup or doing a poor job leads to deterioration of building materials, the ruination of carpet and glue-down tile, and the potential for mold growth in any of these areas if other elements are favorable for germination of spores and growth. SERVPRO has the professional equipment to:
    •    Extract any amount of water
    •    Detection equipment
    •    Drying devices
    •    Proprietary cleaning agents

What Happens to Water that Waits for Removal?

Holding off on getting a professional job done for water extraction in your home is a huge mistake. The longer water sits, the more it degrades. After 48 hours, the potential for contaminants or harmful bacteria to be present is so likely that it requires handling and disposal as a category three biohazard, also known as "black water." Any items that absorbed the water generally are a loss as they have no way to return to a sanitary standard for reuse. The exception being washable clothing and fabrics, which can get cleaned through the use of the powerful Esporta Cleaning System. SERVPRO techs have extensive training and hold a certification #64-64-1785570 for the safe handling of biohazard materials of all types.

How Do I Know If I Have Mold I Cannot See?

Mold can be a side effect of a longtime leak or water removal that waited too long. Signs that mold is part of the home cleanup equation are:
    •    An earthy, musty odor that does not diminish
    •    Stains or discoloration on walls or ceilings
    •    Hardwood flooring may show visible evidence between the boards

SERVPRO techs know that mold remediation should be handled with care, and to avoid spreading airborne spores during the process, containment around the loss area is a common tactic. The techs have comprehensive training and carry certification for mold damage mitigation #MRSR515 Florida License. Protective clothing is a must, including respirators.

Building materials compromised by mold require disposal. It is not unusual to see a wall with interior mold damage reduced to the studs to stop the infestation. After ensuring the structure has an indoor humidity level below 50% to stop the cycle of mold growth, the techs wipe down the exposed structure. SERVPRO techs have access to a large selection of cleaning agents, many of which are exclusive. Antimicrobial solutions get used in areas where mold abatement has taken place. If there is any danger of mold setting back up before any repairs get completed, the application of antimicrobial sealants assures there is no germination or growth.

After any type of water loss, odor control may be necessary with or without the additional issue of mold. The techs have a diverse selection of odor control applications for combating light odors to more robust methods that neutralize odorous particles at the molecular level.

How Does SERVPRO Know What Actions are Covered During the Restoration Services?
When the techs come on-site to clean up your water loss in your home, they communicate closely with both the homeowner and adjuster. Nothing gets disposed of without approval, and before restoration actions get taken, the techs verify that the work is under the scope of coverage. This attention to detail ensures the property owners do not get hit with surprise out-of-pocket expenses. Once the mitigation efforts complete, the homeowner and adjuster (if available) get an overview of the actions taken and anything left to do to bring the home back to the same state as before the water loss.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 is ready 24/7 to assist local properties with any size or type of water cleanup. The certified technicians arrive quickly and return your home to its preloss condition.

How Do I know If There is Water Behind My Kitchen Cabinets?

6/10/2020 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO Can Find The Source of Hidden Water In Your Port Orange Home And Remove The Problem

When there is any water loss, it is critical to have it taken care of immediately. If you suspect there is water behind your cabinets in your Port Orange residence, get help quickly.

How are hidden pockets of water located?

Our technicians use professional equipment that allows them to find the water and reflects how much water they are dealing with. This knowledge helps them proceed with water damage repair in your Port Orange home. There are two main types of equipment used to detect water:

  • Moisture Sensors –used to detect water that gets trapped under carpet and padding. It helps determine just how far the water has spread.
  • Thermal Imaging Cameras – detects cold spots, which are often an indication of water. A fluctuation in temperature in a given area can mean moisture is present.
  • Penetrating Moisture Meter – this involves the use of probes that can penetrate multiple layers.
  • Borescopes – a long hose with a camera; this allows technicians to capture images so water levels and contamination can be determined.

Removing the Trapped Water

Once the location and amount of water are determined, the next step is water damage repair. The goal is to extract all excess water and complete the drying process. SERVPRO wants to return your kitchen to its normal status and leave it “Like it never even happened.” This includes the following procedures:

  • Water extraction – in this situation, portable extraction equipment will most likely be used. Portable pumps have wand attachments that allow the technician to reach into spaces that are hard to reach.
  • Air Movers – keeps the air flowing and begins the drying out process.
  • Dehumidifiers – pull moisture from the air and replaces it with warm, dry air.
  • Cavity Drying Equipment – If needed, this equipment can blow air directly into the wall cavity.

Methods for Using Truck-Mount Pumps in Daytona Beach Homes

Pumping out water from your damaged Daytona Beach home might seem like a straightforward situation, but there are more levels and considerations than initially meet the eye. The considerable volume of water that our technicians must address might encourage the use of our truck-mount pump, but the choice in where or how water gets discharged from the property.

The equipment for water extraction in Daytona Beach homes and condos is instrumental to the speed and efficiency of water restoration. Our SERVPRO professionals typically use electric submersible pumps to offer continuous and quiet extraction efforts to control excessive water loss situations. When standing water exceeds several feet, more powerful extractors are necessary, such as our truck-mounted options.

Truck-mounted pumps are the most powerful extractors in our inventory of tools. Because these units can draw water from floors at 300 psi, it is the most direct path to fast water removal in widespread loss situations. There are two ways that we can set up the discharge of the water, as these machines are attached to large tanks.

Collecting Water

We do not always need to dispose of standing water in your home away from the property. As the truck-mount pumps are attached to a high-capacity water tank, we can fill up these tanks and move them to a treatment facility or our warehouse for proper disposal.

Bypassing the Tank

The disadvantage of using the tank is multiple times it can fill up throughout substantial water removal projects. We can discharge standing water to the sanitary sewer or another appropriate disposal point by bypassing the main tank instead. You still get the power of this extraction machine without the limitations of its storage.

While not every disaster that requires extraction benefits from truck-mounted pumps, our team can choose the ideal tools for every water loss situation. You can count on our SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange team to utilize a range of water removal tools to make losses “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (386) 788-0358.

Are You Storing Water Damage in Your Port Orange Cabinets?

11/20/2019 (Permalink)

Cabinetry is a significant investment for the homeowner. SERVPRO can help protect that investment. Call us for your water damage restoration needs.

Drying Cabinets Beneath the Sink in Port Orange Homes

The supply and drains of your sink can be a prime location for leaks and water damages in your Port Orange home. Whether in the kitchen or bathrooms, the design of these fixtures can break down over time or become susceptible to pressure building clogs and backpressure situations. Damage to the plumbing beneath the sink over a lengthy period is not uncommon, as many homeowners do not get into this storage area every day.

Extensive leaks can saturate cabinet wood and the framework of the cabinetry units, causing a need for water removal in Port Orange kitchens. Moisture removal requires calculated efforts, as every material reacts to drying and extraction processes differently. Non-premier wood structural elements can be highly susceptible to oversaturation.

Particleboard is a base material for much of the cabinets in new construction projects and can also serve as cabinet flooring and walls. Even with a veneer finish on these materials, the board itself is porous and highly susceptible to fast penetration by direct water exposure frequent in under-sink leaks. Preserving these materials is possible when the damage gets caught early enough. However, once structural damages have resulted, it is more cost-effective to replace the portions of cabinets damaged by the plumbing breach than to take the time to dry it out.

Premier wood cabinetry might not be as standard but is also a possibility that our SERVPRO team must plan for when we first arrive. During the scoping of the work to get completed, our professionals can use moisture detection tools to determine the extent and concentration of moisture and saturation in this space beneath the sink. Because the wood is much denser and less porous, a quick reaction to these water losses can leave our team only drying up surface water.

You cannot predict when sink fixtures can spring a leak or begin malfunctioning, but fast responses to the potential damage can save our customers time and money. Let our SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange team help however you need by calling (386) 788-0358.

Homeowners have always played an intricate role in the severity of damage to their Daytona Beach home when disasters like fire, water, and flooding occur. It is partly a fact of the fast response and reaction to the situation to secure the experienced restorative professionals like our SERVPRO team, as with water damages, minutes and hours can make a substantial difference in what materials and structural elements become too severely damaged to preserve. For those that seek to handle this recovery on their own, there are specific strategies and equipment that can make the process go more smoothly.

Before you can successfully implement DIY water removal in Daytona Beach homes, there are some machines and information that you want to acquire. Our SERVPRO professionals encourage area residents to take an active stance in the quality of their properties and work towards what these structures need after a disaster, but that also comes with an understanding that the work happens safely, and the result addresses all damage present in the house.

Many homeowners do not have an inventory of recovery tools to choose from, let alone a selection of water removal machines at their disposal. If you find you lack water removal equipment, these devices can get purchased or rented from area home improvement and hardware stores. Many homes have wet/dry vacs, especially property owners in the lower lying, flood-prone areas of Daytona.

A tip to ensure that the area gets dried thoroughly after extraction takes place is to purchase or rent moisture detection tools such as hygrometers or thermal imagery cameras. It might be a challenge to track down, but these are non-invasive approaches to locate moisture pockets and ensure that the work has gotten accomplished sufficiently before you deem the job complete.

Many considerations exist with water removal, and the most pressing of these is acquiring the right tools for the job. If you feel like extraction and drying of your water damaged home is too difficult, our SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange professionals can arrive quickly to help with the full measure of our recovery and mitigation equipment. Give us a call anytime you need us at (386) 788-0358.

Don't let your apartment get overcome by water damage. Contact SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.

Plumbing Leak in Your Daytona Beach Apartment

Water loss incidents and emergencies can come from a variety of sources, and plumbing failure can be among the most catastrophic of these sources in your Daytona Beach apartment. Even a small leak can quickly begin to pool and spread throughout your unit, beginning at the breach and moving out in every available direction. Overcoming this spread often involves professionals who can work quickly to contain the effects before too many other apartments also share these compromised conditions.

Even with a fast reaction from the apartment owner to shut off the main supply of water to the Daytona Beach property, in most cases, substantial water damage exists already. Our SERVPRO professionals understand the value of a fast response to substantial loss incidents, especially those that could affect more than one residence at a time like a plumbing break in a shared wall. With sophisticated detection tools and mitigation equipment, we can begin to restore these effects from the time that we first arrive.

As is the case with all plumbing breaches, our technicians must work quickly from the time that we arrive to determine the source of the water damage throughout the unit. We have multiple moisture content readers, thermal and infrared cameras, and even leak detection equipment to utilize audio cues to narrow the precise point of a break in the plumbing pipes. Once the source has gotten identified, our contractors can carefully remove a small portion of drywall to access this breach and repair it.

Cleaning up the excess water and drying out saturated elements is also an important step of this recovery of your apartment, and the faster these effects get addressed, the less that neighboring units become susceptible to damage as well. Our SERVPRO professionals have advanced extraction and drying equipment to make water loss incidents “Like it never even happened.”

Make Your Water Damage Remediation in Port Orange Dreams Become a Reality

5/7/2019 (Permalink)

Water damage can cause trouble in a variety of places. It can also be tough to manage alone. Contact SERVPRO today for remediation needs.

Water Damage Restoration for Your Port Orange Home

The kitchen in your Port Orange home is the center of all your family’s activity and where you enjoy the company of friends. Your kitchen is essential to your home, but an ugly truth balances it – your kitchen holds a variety of water lines, pipes, and appliances which use water, so spills and leaks are always possible and sometimes can cause unsightly water damage. One such area you need to keep an eye on is your kitchen sink.

If you spotted a leak around your kitchen sink you need to find the source right away and get help cleaning and restoring the water damage in your Port Orange kitchen. SERVPRO, a professional water damage remediation company, is here to help you anytime you need. With our trained staff and industrial tools, we can have your kitchen looking as if nothing ever happened in no time.

Your sink is obviously where the most water is likely used in your kitchen, so it holds the most significant risk of causing water damage. Performing some routine essential maintenance can help you avoid any big disasters. It is very easy to overlook the space under the sink cabinet where you store all the cleaning supplies, but if you miss a leak under your sink, severe water damage can be the result.

Drying the walls and floors behind or underneath your kitchen sink cabinet can sometimes be tricky. The wall behind the cabinet can take additional time to dry since there are multiple layers of drywall and cabinet backing. If the cabinet has no back, SERVPRO technicians may drill holes in the wall to let the air circulate inside the wall cavity. Once we are sure it is dry, we cover or patch the hole. When the cabinet has a back, the drying times are extended due to the multiple layers that became wet.

The area under your cabinet usually referred to as the toe kick, is typically made of a less expensive material than the cabinet itself. Base molding might be mounted on the front of the toe kick. We need to remove the base molding and drill holes into the toe kick so the air can flow underneath the cabinet. Once the drying process is complete, we replace the base or toe kick.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach/Port Orange is available to help you clean up the mess of a leaky sink in your home in Allandale, Ponce Inlet, or South Daytona anytime you need us. Just reach out by dialing (386) 788-0358 as soon as you find the issue so we can get your home back to the way it was before the incident.

Water Removal Technicians In Port Orange Discuss Problems With Clogged Sinks

The kitchen inside your Port Orange house is a common place for moisture-related issues to occur. Wherever there are several waterpipes running into a room, it is likely that a disaster occurs that causes you to have to conduct water removal. Plumbing failures are the most common type of problem, but appliance malfunctions can also create issues. For instance, if your dishwasher breaks or garbage disposal fails, building materials can get damaged. If something in your kitchen leaks, and contents or building materials near the room get wet, then it is wise to call in a professional water removal company such as SERVPRO.

Even the most minor problem such as your sink clogging can cause your kitchen extensive damage. If your sink ever backs up and overflows, you could be forced to call in professional water removal technicians in Port Orange such as SERVPRO. As soon as your sink overflows, moisture can quickly start soaking into your kitchen's building materials. Everything below the kitchen including the cabinets, trim and flooring can suffer from damage when your kitchen sink backs up. If the moisture is excessive, then your building materials can get saturated and ruined.

If water ever comes out of your sink, you could have contamination problems. Any water coming from a source other than clean, fresh outlets must be dealt with differently. When a sink or drain running from it leaks, it is considered a category two water damage situation and the source is considered grey water. Category two scenarios mean that there is a chance that the moisture soaking into your kitchen's building materials is hazardous.

When dealing with grey water, any porous materials have to be removed due to possible contamination. If non-porous materials such as tiles get wet, we mop up the contaminated water and then clean and sanitize the affected areas with antibacterial chemicals. Once all of the liquid H2O gets removed from your kitchen, we set up drying equipment and dry out your structural components. If you ever notice your sink overflowing, call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 24/7.

Don't Panic When Your Washing Machine Fails And Causes Damage To Your Daytona Beach Home

2/14/2019 (Permalink)

While the washing machine serves an important role within your house, it can also prove to be the source of considerable water damage.

Washing Machine Failures That Damage Daytona Beach Homes

As helpful as washing machines have become for Daytona Beach homeowners, these like all water-fed appliances, have the potential to cause significant damages to a house without the proper upkeep and use. A common potential problem for washing machines is its installation on uneven or slick surfaces. With unbalanced loads, washing machines can rock, sometimes violently, pulling at the hose connections against the wall. If the hose pulls free from the fixture, or from the machine itself, there is no check valve in place to stop the unabated flow of water onto the laundry room floor before you manually turn it off on your own.

With the disconnection of a supply line to the washing machine, water can flow and pool quickly, causing an immediate need for professional water removal services in your Daytona Beach home. Our SERVPRO professionals can understand the severity of a situation like this, as water damage can spread quickly from the initial point of exposure throughout a home, so we can respond quickly to the emergency with the equipment to help.

Extraction is a key component to restoring a damaged home in these conditions, and our rapid response team arrives with several machines and tools designed to remove excess water quickly from this exposed area. We have portable sump pumps, gas-powered pumps, extraction wands, and weighted extractors to remove as much of the water from the laundry area and adjacent affected rooms quickly.

Drying is vital to follow the extraction as exposed materials like linoleum tiles could get preserved with the right response to the emergency. Our objective is to protect exposed materials when possible and reduce the need for tear out and reconstruction. Air movers, dehumidifiers, drying mats, and our injectidry system can all play vital roles in eliminating moisture pockets in flooring and wall cavities.

While the washing machine serves an important role within your house, it can also prove to be the source of considerable water damage without careful upkeep and monitoring. If you get faced with a water loss incident, give our SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange rapid response team a call at (386) 788-0358.

SERVPRO's Water Damage Plan To Restore Your Daytona Beach Home To Pre-Damage Condition

10/10/2018 (Permalink)

When water spills over from regular areas such as bathrooms, it causes far-reaching damages.

Thorough Water Cleanup In Daytona Restores Property To Pre-Loss Condition

When water spills over from regular areas such as bathrooms, it causes far-reaching damages. In some cases, it only soaks the items it comes into contact with thus restoration only involves drying what is deemed salvageable. In other cases though, the water intrusion spreads debris and other soluble wastes. For instance, water backing up from a dishwasher contains food residue and detergent among other wastes. In such cases, proper cleanup is necessary for your Daytona Beach property to revert to its preloss state. We offer professional cleanup services that can ease your burden.

For the water cleanup in Daytona Beach to bear fruit, it is important to follow the right procedures. The exercise should also address all affected areas including the structure and the contents. The structural areas that require keen attention include walls and subfloors because water tends to push dirt or debris into hidden spaces such as wall cavities or any openings on the floor. Leaving such waste in place can lead to other problems like bad odor, or even pest infestations all over your property. Our SERVPRO team can help establish the level of cleaning needed.

In most cases, the carpets are heavily affected compared to other contents in cases of water loss, so they take most of the cleaning effort. It is also important to clean the entire carpet even if only a small section is affected. Our SERVPRO technicians can apply different cleaning approaches to deal with the soiling “Like it never even happened.”

Before cleaning carpets, we first evaluate whether the dirt is restricted to the fiber tips or goes down to the base. We also check whether the carpet fibers are heavily matted or sticky and stiff. From these evaluations, our SERVPRO technicians can use approaches like rotary jet extraction for heavy soiling or hot water extraction if the soiling is moderate or light. We also use appropriate shampoo or preconditioner. For other surfaces such as floors or walls, agitation with brushes or using pressure washers remove any debris easily. In some cases, we can also deodorize the affected environment especially if the water loss restoration does not start immediately.

Restoring a property to preloss conditions after a case of spillage should not be too difficult. Call SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange at (386) 788-0358 to assist. We are available 24/7.

How To Get Rid Of Odor From Water Damage In Daytona Beach

9/19/2018 (Permalink)

When you thought that you have gotten rid of all the excess water, water damage can still leave a disastrous odor in your house.

How To Getting Rid Of Odor From Water Damage

When you thought that you have gotten rid of all the excess water, water damage can still leave a disastrous odor in your house. The water content can remain hidden in walls, carpets, floors, air, and cracks. The moisture promotes the growth of odor-causing bacteria, fungi, molds, and mildew. These organisms can create an unpleasant smell that can fill the whole room. If the odor is left unmanaged, it can significantly reduce the value of your house.

Water damage in Daytona Beach can be a complicated case. People often use air freshener, perfume, or scented candles to get rid of the smell, but that only mask the odor. The worse part is inviting friends and family over for a small gathering. They might have to suffer the horrible smell with you. If you want to get rid of these odors, then you might have to invest in some expensive tools and equipment.

Luckily, with SERVPRO, they can help you get rid of those nasty odors that were left behind from water damage. These technicians can use advanced equipment like the Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Foggers and the Thermal Foggers. The ULV can produce a fine mist that can penetrate odor-causing residues that have accumulated from the water damage. This technology can also inject fungicides and disinfectant that can kill off odor-causing micro-organisms in wall cavities and other difficult to access locations. Another tool that these techs can use is the thermal foggers, which dispenses a large amount of solvent-based fogs in a confined area. These fogs contain a powerful deodorant solution that can help neutralize odor-causing particles in the air. Once the odors are killed off by this equipment, the technicians can give you a final walk-through so you can finally get a scent of fresh air in your home.

If you are ready to get rid of the odor that is left behind by water damages, then give SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange a call at (386) 788-0358 for a consultation with a reliable technician.

Effects of Humidity Indoors

4/17/2018 (Permalink)

Leaving water in your building can have undesired consequences.

There are several factors why controlling indoor humidity is important. In the South Daytona / Port Orange area the outdoor humidity is higher than most places U.S., making the use of A/C for controlling the indoor humidity extremely important. In our local a RH (relative humidity) of 60% or lower is what a building should maintain to prevent mold amplification which in turn can lead to mold damage or as some people refer to it as “black toxic mold". Controlling the indoor humidity can be especially important if a structure has been recently affected by water damage. In this situation after the water removal, the process would be to get the lower the humidity inside down below 60%. Usually this is done by using commercial dehumidifiers to remove the moisture from the air thus reducing the humidity.

When elevated humidity and/or water damage is not addressed in a timely and proper manner a building will typically suffer from additional damage by causing cracking, swelling or warping. When a structure becomes wet soon after the evaporation process begins and the humidity rises and secondary damage will result from the migration of the moisture from the affected materials to the unaffected materials until equilibrium is achieved. This will lead to a repair process will become more extensive resulting in previously unneeded repairs and increased costs as well as potentially hazardous microbial growth. It’s always a good idea to call an expert like SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange for assistance when dealing with water damage, fire damage and mold removal. How Your Home Might Suffer from Water Damage in Daytona Beach

3/10/2018 (Permalink)

Water damage can cause furniture to become musty-smelling or lose its varnish or other finishes.

Rely on SERVPRO if You Experience Water Damage in Your Home

Although we need water to sustain ourselves and keep us healthy, when it ends up in unexpected places in a Daytona Beach residence, it can create some unexpected changes when it comes into contact with materials inside your home. Some materials show the damage they suffer almost immediately, but others hide the problem more easily.

When your Daytona Beach home suffers from water damage, it can come from any source and affect any material. Sometimes water comes from within your home because of a forgotten tub or a broken ice water line, while other times, storms create problems, instead. The friendly professionals at SERVPRO have experience in jobs of all sizes and can help you restore your home.

Floors. Your home's floors sustain the most damage when a water pipe breaks and water comes spraying out under high pressure. Absorbing a great deal of this as water sits on top, floorboards can swell and crack, and the glue in carpet padding can disintegrate, causing a horrific mess. At SERVPRO, we restore floors for our customers using methods based on their specific needs. When called immediately after the incident, we can often save carpeting by elevating the carpet so we can force air underneath. We also use forced heat and extraction units mounted on special drying mats to rescue hardwood floors.

Holes in your home's roof. Both pests and damage from tree limbs can create openings in your roof where rainfall can enter. Insulation in the area can become sodden with moisture and then compressed, significantly decreasing its R-factor. Even if pests did not exist in the area before the damage, because of the presence of water and the availability of bedding for their young, many types of vermin might find a home's upper portion very inviting. We can get such ruined insulation cleaned up and temporarily patched up until roofing specialists complete the needed repairs.

Walls, inside and out. When walls absorb water, unique wall coverings like stucco, textured spackling, or cork can begin falling apart. Whenever we encounter such surfaces, we use machinery that increases airflow and heat the air, which can help save the interior walls in a home. At times, small openings help circulate air in and through the interior spaces of walls, drying them out from the inside, also.

Furniture can also suffer damage. Increased moisture inside a home from any source can affect your furniture. Upholstered furniture can become musty-smelling or exhibit signs of losing its varnish or other finish on the wooden components. Deep-cleaning these items can help restore them, but when pressing problems exist, our Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning Technician (UFT) provides furnishings with the care they need.

SERVPRO of South Daytona Beach / Port Orange wants to help homeowners in our area restore their home after water damage. Residents in the Harbor Oaks, Wilbur-by-the-Sea, and other nearby communities can call our 24-hour service line at (386) 788-0358 to receive answers to their questions about how we can help restore their homes "Like it never even happened."

Drips Lead to Daytona Area Water Damage--Call SERVPRO

SERVPRO Arrives with the Crews Swiftly to Extract Water from YOur Daytona Property

As a homeowner, seeing standing water in your house when you arrive home from a vacation is a nightmare. What happened?! Based on their experience, our SERVPRO techs say the problem often starts with a water heater past its prime. A tiny crack in the appliance, a leaky hose, a rusting interior, all can cause excess moisture and flooding.

The typical lifespan of most water heaters is 8 to 12 years. After that, homeowners take a risk with each passing year. The appliance is a complex system of metal, hoses, and wires. Once rust gets in, it causes elements to deteriorate. As components weaken, excess moisture escapes and the water heater releases more and more water. Drip by drip, your basement floods. Water removal in Daytona is the first step to fixing the problem and getting your home back to normal.

The team at SERVPRO has specialized equipment to remove standing water quickly and efficiently. We know first hand the damage that flooding causes. It ruins carpets, destroys electrical equipment, and encourages mold and mildew to grow in your boxes of stored possessions. That is why we start our cleanup by bringing in industrial strength pumps, air movers, and dehumidifiers. We concentrate on extracting as much water as possible, then set up the air movers and dehumidifiers to speed moisture evaporation.

We follow the standards and best practices determined by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, respected throughout the field. After training, we receive certification in a range of services, including water damage restoration, odor control, microbial remediation, and drying.

What does this mean for you? SERVPRO experts quickly get rid of the water and moisture and then move on to cleaning and restoration. We use advanced cleaning agents that remove residue and sanitize the surfaces of the affected area. Soon your home is ready once again for your daily activities.
